Faith Assembly of God has a rich and resilient story—one marked by faith, perseverance, and God’s unmistakable grace. Our beginnings trace back to 1960, when a small group of believers felt called to plant a church in Hyannis, Massachusetts. With a shared vision to reach their community for Christ, they gathered in an upstairs storefront on Main Street before taking a bold step of faith: purchasing an unfinished basement on Bearses Way on March 1, 1960. Through sacrificial giving of time, talents, and resources, the congregation completed the space and held their first services there in 1961.
God continued to move. In 1965, an Assembly of God church in Dennis merged with the Hyannis congregation, forming what is now Faith Assembly of God. The merger fueled momentum for growth—leading to the construction of an above-ground building in 1968 (now our dining hall), a sanctuary addition, and the purchase of neighboring property. Between 1970 and 1977, further building campaigns expanded the sanctuary to its present size and added the two-story educational wing still used today.
These steps of faith created a ministry center that has touched countless lives over the decades. Many of the outreaches birthed in those early years continue even now, demonstrating the enduring impact of a church committed to serving its community.
Our pastoral leadership reflects that same spirit of dedication. Rev. Richard W. Robedee shepherded the church for more than 40 years before passing the baton to Rev. Stephen Hawley, who led from 2007 to 2024 and was ultimately called to launch Hiker Church, a ministry to hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Rev. Dr. Anne Bates graciously guided the church as interim pastor during a season of transition. In November 2024, Rev. Damian Schoonmaker—returning to the roots of his youth—accepted the call to serve as our Lead Pastor.
In addition to serving as a house of worship, Faith Assembly is home to Kiddie Kollege, our church-affiliated preschool. Under the faithful leadership of Ms. Sue Smith, Kiddie Kollege celebrated 50 years of providing Christ-centered early education to Cape Cod families in 2023.
Today, more than six decades after our founding, Faith Assembly of God remains committed to building faith, sharing hope, and impacting lives for Christ—both within our four walls and throughout the Cape Cod community. Our story continues, and we give God all the glory for what He has done and what is yet to come.
